"Roundette" dining set with extending table by Hans Olsen for Frem Røjle, Denmark. An excellent sculptural design - wonderful for small spaces - these sets were popular examples of Scandinavian modern design, and naturally are still appreciated today.
The set comprises a round table which can be extended through a butterfly leaf - stowed beneath the table top when not in use - and four three-legged chairs. The back rails of the chairs are the same size as the apron of the table, and fit neatly into place under the top. These sets are typically made of teak and afrormosia (also known as African teak) giving slight variations in tone according to the natural wood. Table legs unscrew for ease of shipping and installation, and the chairs stack.
The set is in nice vintage condition, with elegant plain wood back rails and original slimline seat upholstery, which is becoming rare to see. The teak top has been professionally cleaned and wax-oiled, the colour match between the outer and extension leaves is good, with an interesting grain pattern to the top, and there have been no modifications. This is an old set, and there are signs of wear throughout as one might expect, including scratches or dents, nicks to the vinyl and wood, and other old marks and work.
