Headboard of Cast and Hammered Brass by Luciano Frigerio, Italy
A headboard of cast and hammered brass, by Luciano Frigerio, Italy, mid-20th century.
This is a statement piece, with a simple block-like construction, which gives it a strong Brutalist feel. The upper section comprises two cross-bars with hammered finish, linked by twelve sculptural panels in heavily textured cast brass. The supporting frame is of gold-colored steel.
Overall the headboard is in good original condition, with nice patina and character in line with age. The two cross-bars are lacquered and have a mellow sheen which moves from brown to gold depending on the level of light (see images 1&3 where the left side is in more shadow and the right is in more light). The cast panels in the centre have a smooth finish; we have not polished the metal and it shows a very nice aged patina. There are signs of wear throughout appropriate to age and use, including some tarnishing, losses to the finish of the cross-bars, and losses of paint to the supporting frame (see images). Retailer's label on the lower part of the frame.
Approximate dimensions:
- Overall size H 99cm x W 179.5cm x D 5cm (5.5cm including screw fittings on the reverse)

Please note this is a heavy piece which will require suitable installation. The listing is for the headboard only - the remaining three sections of the simple steel bed-surround are not included in this listing as they can add considerably to the shipping costs.
