Pendant light or lantern of amber-coloured glass blown into a deep blue/black enamelled metal frame. European, mid-20th century.

A simple, elegant light, nicely made, which gives a lovely patterned light through the amber glass. The light is in good vintage condition overall and presents well. There is no maker's mark however the style is usually attributed to the Finnish designer Nanny Still McKinney; these lights are most often seen with a distressed finish to the paintwork, and it's unusual to see one with the finish in this condition.

In the detail there are minor signs of wear to the finish of the metal and a few imperfections in the glass - see image 3 - though they're hard to pick out in use. New wiring has been installed and the fixture takes a single large screw-fitting bulb (E27); we recommend using an LED bulb with low wattage to keep the heat down and protect the glass. The shade is suspended by a black metal stem attached to the light by a brass coupling; this arrangement could be replaced by your electrician with wire or chain if you require a longer drop.

Approximate dimensions:
Shade only: H 24cm x Dia 13cm
Height including stem: approximately 70cm

The stem will be removed for shipping.
