Turned Wood Pedestal, Column or Plinth, First Half 20th Century

Sold

A turned wood pedestal or column with circular base and good weight; used to display plants or other objects. First half twentieth century, found in England. Art deco or modernist in style and reminiscent of the work of Charles Dudouyt (France, 1885-1946). The wood - possibly oak - has been stained with a mid-to-dark finish. The stem, top and base are nicely turned.

Overall the piece has an aged patina which we have left as found. It has been well-used and has signs of wear from age and use throughout. The stem has historic splits, with minor repairs which look to be stable. The base has been repaired as shown and both the top and base have pins attaching to the central stem. There are scratches and small digs elsewhere. We have described the condition as fair to draw attention to these points, however for us it presents nicely.
