Image of Writing Desk by Van Der Meeren

Large size writing desk by Willy Van Der Meeren. Belgium 1950s.

This model is a stylish combination of French grey steel with plywood top finished in pale grey linen-patterned Formica. It is in very good original condition with some signs of age and use to both the frame and the top (see images). All the rubber feet are in place. Overall the desk has a nice patina and presents well.

Dimensions: H: 79 cm x W: 125 cm x D: 55 cm

Willy van der Meeren (1923-2002) was a Belgian architect and designer, who was once a pupil of Le Corbusier. In the 1950s he created a number of pieces for Tubax - a manufacturer regarded as a pioneer of Modernism in Belgium - including simple multi-coloured wardrobes and writing desks for schools and colleges, as seen here.
